What did the film get right, and what was pure science fiction?
Dig into the real science behind one of the most iconic films of all time.
When Jurassic Park was released in 1993, it captured imaginations around the world and sparked a renewed fascination with dinosaurs. But how much of the science shown on screen was based in reality, and how much was pure Hollywood?
Join ReBecca Hunt-Foster, Park Paleontologist and Museum Curator at Dinosaur National Monument, for a fascinating look at what Jurassic Park got right, where it took scientific liberties, and what paleontologists have discovered in the 33 years since the film’s release.
You’ll also learn about the real dinosaurs found right here in northwestern Colorado, and how you can visit a real Jurassic landscape practically in our own backyard.
Then, if you’re joining us for the 2:00 PM performance, continue the adventure as the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra performs John Williams’ legendary score live to the complete film at Strings Music Pavilion.
$15 per person (non-concert ticket holders). FREE for Jurassic Park in Concert ticket holders. Concert admission is sold separately. Registration for this talk does not include admission to Jurassic Park in Concert. If you would like to purchase Jurassic Park in Concert tickets please click HERE.
Childhood friends, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing, have been exploring the outdoors together since they were kids growing up in Denver, Colorado. Whether making forts by the neighborhood creek or camping in the mountains, their friendship was built on imagination and adventure. Today, as the Grammy Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, they turn that spirit into Americana folk songs that celebrate friendship, nature, and the joy of discovery.
With banjo, guitar, and brotherly harmony at the heart of their sound, they create songs that make you want to dance in the kitchen and sing by the campfire. Blending humor and heart, their work reminds listeners that wisdom can be simple, and that the best adventures can begin right outside your door.
On their newest album, Little Old You, The Okee Dokee Brothers are going back to basics with an acoustic backyard set from the heart. Banjo and guitar take the lead on these playful songs full of life and the mystery of the natural world. It’s a big bucket full of sticks, mud and cosmic wonder. Joe and Justin continue to remind us that we are both silly and wise, young and old, and infinitely big in all our little ways.
The wait is over: Emerald Park has a new place to climb, slide, swing, spin, ride and explore. The city will celebrate the opening of the Emerald Park Playground from 3:30-5:30pm on Wednesday, September 30, with a community celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony around 4pm.
