The Winter Carnival, proudly hosted by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and Title Sponsor Yampa Valley Bank, brings the community together to celebrate athleticism and winter, showcasing Steamboat’s Western traditions and ski heritage. First established in 1914, the original intent of Winter Carnival was to help forget the hardships of winter, chase away the shorter days, and bring happiness back to a valley plagued by snow. Today, Winter Carnival honors snow, winter, and winter sports that make Steamboat Springs Ski Town, USA.

Join us for family events and activities at Howelsen Hill from Tuesday through Sunday and Street Events on Saturday and Sunday—a wildly entertaining show featuring children on skis and snowboards being pulled behind horses along snow-covered Lincoln Avenue. On Saturday night, head to Howelsen Hill for the must-see highlight of the event at the 112th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival Night Extravaganza. The evening starts with local athletes showcasing their incredible skills, illuminated by flares and LED lights. The spectacular Lighted Man will ski down Howelsen Hill, shooting fireworks from his pyrotechnic suit, while daring jumpers fly through a fiery hoop off the nordic jumps! The night concludes with a breathtaking fireworks display that will light up the sky. It’s a night you won’t want to miss!

A 2025 $15 Winter Carnival button is required to spectate or participate in all Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival events, plus free access to ski or ride on Howelsen Hill each day from February 5-9 — skiing is always FREE at Howelsen Hill on Sundays.
