Equine Explorer Camp: South Routt Spring Break

Mountain Valley Horse Rescue (MVHR) is excited to be offering Routt County kids ages 8 and up the opportunity to spend Spring Break with horses with our new Equine Explorers Camp! Spend Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the ranch with the all new Equine Explorers 3 day Horse Camp.

Equine Explorer Camp is an educational multi day camp offering even more hands-on horse time. Campers will learn about safety and confidence around the horses through learning groundwork, leading, grooming. We cover horse body language, anatomy, nutrition, basic horse terminology and tools. During the camp kids will learn through hands-on activities and worksheets which will be provided to them in their “equine explorers journal”. Each session will build on one another with extensive horse time and a different educational component on a variety of horse topics. This camp is available for ages 8 and up (ability to read & write).

Dates: Wednesday March 25, Thursday March 26, Friday March 27 – 3 days
Where: MVHR Ranch in McCoy
Cost: $200.00 per child for 3 days. Limited scholarship funds are available for those that need assistance in order to participate – email programs@mvhr.net if you’d like to learn more.

Clay Creations Craft Extravaganza

The Craft Extravaganza is back for the spring with exciting specialized workshops to learn new arts and crafts skills and have fun creating! Each event focuses on a different art medium and will result in a fun product kids can take home with them or give away as a gift! Clay Creations: Get messy and creative with your hands using air-dry clay and carving tools to create three-dimensional artwork!

Who: 3rd-8th graders
When: 6-8pm
Cost: $30 per event

Cooking Matters Adult + Kids Cooking Class

Join us on March 23, from 3:30-5:30 pm for a Cooking Matters class in the preschool classroom at Discovery Learning Center. Classes are for caregivers and children. They include an interactive cooking session as well as grocery shopping tips and nutrition education. Please register by March 16, 2026. Space is limited so, registration is required.

Insight for Kids: Art for Climate Action

Kids can make a difference too! Kids, join us for a fun session of making art and learning about how we can care for our environment as part of Western Resilience Center’s Insight: Art for Climate Action program. Event is free and put on in collaboration with Prescription for the Arts.

Activities will include an art scavenger hunt and multiple craft stations to make inspiring artwork.

Event will take place in the lobby at Wildhorse Cinema & Arts. For ages first grade and up. Please have at least one parent or guardian attend with your child.

If you have bubble wrap, cardboard, paper towel/toilet paper rolls, bottle caps or foam at home, bring it with you and we will turn this waste into art together.

FREE Family Night at Steamboat Art Museum with Yampatika

Join us for a special Family Night at SAM in partnership with Yampatika — where art and science come together for an evening of hands-on discovery inspired by our current exhibit and the connections humans share with animals. Kids and caregivers alike can explore creative projects that blend imagination with experimentation, sparking curiosity about the natural world and our place within it.

Come be a part of this lively, welcoming night designed to inspire young minds and celebrate the wonder of learning together. Grab your friends and family and meet us at SAM for a night of fun you won’t want to miss!

Pride & Pow Free Ski Day at Howelsen Hill

It’s that time of year again… it’s Pride and Pow! Join us March 8th at Howelsen Hill Ski Area to show off your pride and enjoy a fun-filled day in the powder! Bring your friends, family, or just yourself — all are welcome! Skiing is free and all guests will receive a drink and food ticket for a meal. Arrive by 12PM and join us for a group run and color canon release! Goodies and special Pride and Pow Stickers will be available to help you add to your pride supply! We hope to see you there!

Howie Wowie Wave Bash at Howelsen Hill

Shred the frozen wave (quarter-pipe) at Howelsen Hill during Ski Free Sunday! The Wave will be open to the public throughout the day for informal shred sessions. Drop in and have fun with your fellow shredders. The Outrun Snack Bar will be serving up delicious food and drinks all day, and DJ Rocksteady Teddy will be on hand spinning classic reggae beats from 12 PM to 3 PM.

Participate in the expression session from 12 PM to 1 PM for a chance to win prizes from our event sponsors!

  • This fun and casual session will give skiers and riders of all ages and abilities the opportunity to practice and exhibit their best jumps, slides, and other tricks while feeding off each other’s energy and creativity.
  • The Howelsen Hill crew will be on hand, giving out fun prizes and merchandise to participants. This is not a competition, but a fun opportunity to learn new tricks and collaborate with your fellow shredders.

Stamp Workshop Craft Extravaganza

A Fun Night Of Crafts And Artistic Inspiration! The Craft Extravaganza is back for the spring with specialized workshops to learn new arts and crafts skills and have fun creating! Learn how to carve your own original designs into a rubber stamp and create vibrant patterns and prints for artwork or decoration!

Middle School Bowling Bash

Free Bowling for Middle School-aged kids with an adult present! Come and learn about different organizations that have programs for Middle Schoolers in our community! Participating organizations will be sharing how Middle Schoolers can get involved in programs, and there will be food, a raffle, and lots of fun.
