Perry Mansfield Production Design Intensive
This immersive program invites high school students in grades 10 through 12 to explore the dynamic world of theatrical design through a blend of theory, concept development, and hands-on practice. Participants will gain foundational and advanced knowledge across key design disciplines, including:
• Lighting & Electrics: Learn the principles of lighting design and assist with electrics in live productions.
• Scenic Design: Explore set design from concept sketches to scale models and construction techniques.
• Sound Design: Understand audio storytelling, soundscapes, and technical setup for performances.
• Stage Management: Develop organizational and leadership skills essential to running a show smoothly.
• Costume and props: design and construction
Students will collaborate with professional designers and technicians, gaining real-world experience in production environments while refining their creative voice and technical fluency.
Participation in this program requires a brief interview and submission of supporting materials:
• Interview: Conducted via phone or Zoom to assess interest, experience, and readiness.
• Letters of Recommendation: Two letters from teachers, mentors, or professionals familiar with the student’s work ethic and creative potential.
• Portfolio Submission: Required for scholarship consideration. Portfolios may include sketches, photos of past work, cue sheets, prompt books, or other relevant materials showcasing design experience or interest.
