Help for the “Halloween Hangover”

After the costumes are packed away and the spooky fun has passed, many parents are left with a “Halloween Hangover” in the form of leftover candy and pumpkins. Fortunately, there are ways to keep that Halloween spirit going by putting those extras to good use in the Steamboat Springs community. Here are two ways to make the most of your leftover Halloween treats and decor.
- Donate Candy to Treats for Troops
Put extra candy to a sweet purpose by donating it to Treats for Troops. From November 1–8, bring unopened candy to the Boys and Girls Club, located at 325 8th Street, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Your candy donations will be packed up and sent to service members, giving them a taste of home and some Halloween cheer.

- Pumpkins for Piggies
Leftover pumpkins can help support local agriculture through the Pumpkins for Piggies initiative. On Saturday, November 9, drop off your pumpkins from noon to 3 p.m. in the parking lot across from Yampa Valley Foods, at 35 11th Street. The pumpkins will be given to local farmers to use as compost or animal feed. Just make sure to remove any paint, wax, or candles before drop-off! Now in its fifth year, Pumpkins for Piggies is a great way to keep waste down while giving back to the community. You can also get 10% off your purchase when you drop off your pumpkins!

These simple efforts turn Halloween leftovers into meaningful contributions, keeping the season’s spirit alive a little longer in Steamboat Springs.
